Inktomi Search Engine Analysis
While Inktomi isn’t an active search engine anymore (it was purchased by Yahoo!, and the company was absorbed; Yahoo! made the announcement on December 23, 2002), we enjoyed tracking its growth back in the day. As such, we’re keeping our reporting from 2002 up for posterity:
There was a time when everyone in search was obsessed with Inktomi.
Inktomi isn’t a portal – you don’t go to Inktomi to search for a website or to submit your site. Inktomi is the back-end for some of the biggest search engines out there, and it provides customized search engines, so you can’t just figure out the Inktomi algorithm – there’s a different algorithm for each partner.

Inktomi is everywhere. It provides its search technology to About.com, America Online, HotBot, iWon, LookSmart, MSN, Overture, and many, many more. Inktomi results are often tertiary to sponsored results and directory results.
