Google Monetizes Maps API
Google will begin charging for use of the Google Maps API starting January 1, 2012, reports Poynter.org. Licenses will be available on a pay-per-use basis or through a licensing agreement that costs “$10,000 for a million page views a year and goes up to $40,000 for 5 million a year.”
Lest you fear for your favorite mapped mash-ups, Google has stated that the API will remain free for up to 25,000 uses per day, meaning the change will affect less than 1 percent of sites.
